A vulnerability was found in rawstudio 2.1-0.1.20150511git983bda1.fc22. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function rs_filter_graph of the file librawstudio/rs-filter.c. The rs_filter_graph function in librawstudio/rs-filter.c in rawstudio might allow local users to truncate arbitrary files via a symlink attack on (1) /tmp/rs-filter-graph.png or (2) /tmp/rs-filter-graph.
The bug was discovered 07/16/2014. The weakness was disclosed 12/29/2017 by Steve Kemp (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-4978 since 07/16/2014. Attacking locally is a requirement. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 302 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
