Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in libming 0.4.8 (Programming Tool Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function readUInt32 of the file util/read.c of the component SWF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

In libming 0.4.8, there is an integer overflow (caused by an out-of-range left shift) in the readUInt32 function (util/read.c). Remote attackers could leverage this vulnerability to cause a denial-of-service via a crafted swf file.

The bug was discovered 01/08/2018. The weakness was released 01/08/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-5294 since 01/08/2018.
