CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in PoDoFo 0.9.5 (Document Reader Software). This issue affects the function PdfMemoryOutputStream::Write of the file base/PdfOutputStream.cpp of the component PDF File Handler. The manipulation as part of a Argument leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

PoDoFo 0.9.5 does not properly validate memcpy arguments in the PdfMemoryOutputStream::Write function (base/PdfOutputStream.cpp). Remote attackers could leverage this vulnerability to cause a denial-of-service or possibly unspecified other impact via a crafted pdf file.

The bug was discovered 01/08/2018. The weakness was released 01/09/2018 by Agostino Sarubbo as Bug 1532390 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-5308 since 01/08/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 112081 (SUSE SLED12 Security Update : podofo (SUSE-SU-2018:2481-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 172000 (OpenSUSE Security Update for podofo (openSUSE-SU-2019:0066-1)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 9 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
