A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg up to 2.4.5 (Multimedia Processing Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function mov_read_default of the file libavformat/mov.c of the component MP4 File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. Integer underflow in the mov_read_default function in libavformat/mov.c in FFmpeg before 2.4.6 allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information from heap and/or stack memory via a crafted MP4 file.
The bug was discovered 01/21/2015. The weakness was released 01/09/2018 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-1208 since 01/21/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
