A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in OpenVAS Manager up to 4.0.3. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component OMP Authentication Handler. OpenVAS Manager 3.0 before 3.0.7 and 4.0 before 4.0.4 allows remote attackers to bypass the OMP authentication restrictions and execute OMP commands via a crafted OMP request for version information, which causes the state to be set to CLIENT_AUTHENTIC, as demonstrated by the omp_xml_handle_end_element function in omp.c.
The weakness was disclosed 11/08/2013 as Security Releases for OpenVAS-5 and OpenVAS-6 as confirmed mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is available at lists.wald.intevation.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-6765 since 11/09/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed by EccE in Python and been published 9 months after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
