The move_pages system call in mm/migrate.c in the Linux kernel before 4.12.9 doesn t check the effective uid of the target process, enabling a local attacker to learn the memory layout of a setuid executable despite ASLR.
The bug was discovered 08/21/2017. The weakness was presented 01/02/2018 as Pixel?/?Nexus Security Bulletin - January 2018 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared at source.android.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-14140 since 09/05/2017. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
