A vulnerability was found in Wireshark up to 2.4.3 (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown functionality of the file wiretap/vwr.c of the component IxVeriWave File Parser. The manipulation as part of a Timestamp leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. In Wireshark 2.4.0 to 2.4.3 and 2.2.0 to 2.2.11, the IxVeriWave file parser could crash. This was addressed in wiretap/vwr.c by correcting the signature timestamp bounds checks.
The bug was discovered 01/11/2018. The weakness was disclosed 01/11/2018 as Bug 14297 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-5334 since 01/11/2018. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
