A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in MIT Kerberos 5 up to 1.16 (Network Authentication Software). Affected is an unknown code block in the library plugins/kdb/ldap/libkdb_ldap/ldap_principal2.c of the component Key Distribution Center. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. An issue was discovered in MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) through 1.16. The pre-defined function "strlen" is getting a "NULL" string as a parameter value in plugins/kdb/ldap/libkdb_ldap/ldap_principal2.c in the Key Distribution Center (KDC), which allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference) via a modified kadmin client.
The bug was discovered 01/15/2018. The weakness was published 01/16/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-5710 since 01/16/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
