A vulnerability was found in Squid Proxy up to 2.5.STABLE7 (Firewall Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function gopherToHTML. The manipulation as part of a Long Line leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in the gopherToHTML function in the Gopher reply parser for Squid 2.5.STABLE7 and earlier allows remote malicious Gopher servers to cause a denial of service (crash) via crafted responses.
The bug was discovered 01/13/2005. The weakness was disclosed 01/12/2005 with Squid Team (Website). The advisory is available at squid-cache.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-0094 since 01/18/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
