A vulnerability was found in pfSense up to 2.2 (Firewall Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the file status_rrd_graph_img.php. The manipulation of the argument graph with the input value | leads to a os command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. pfSense before 2.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary OS commands via a '|' character in the status_rrd_graph_img.php graph parameter, related to _rrd_graph_img.php.
The bug was discovered 04/15/2016. The weakness was presented 01/22/2018 as EDB-ID 39709 as not defined exploit (Exploit-DB). The advisory is shared at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-10709 since 01/21/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication.
