This vulnerability allows remote attackers to disclose sensitive information on vulnerable installations of Netgain Enterprise Manager. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within heapdumps.jsp. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied string before using it to download heap memory dump. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to disclose sensitive information in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-4718.

The bug was discovered 12/13/2017. The weakness was shared 01/23/2018 by Jacob Baines with Tenable Network Security (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-16607 since 11/06/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 40 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:heapdumps.jsp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13141 (NetGain Enterprise Manager multiple vulnerabilities).
