The vga_draw_text function in Qemu allows local OS guest privileged users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and QEMU process crash) by leveraging improper memory address validation.

The bug was discovered 01/12/2018. The weakness was released 01/23/2018 by Jiang Xin with Huawei (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.gnu.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-5683 since 01/13/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
