A vulnerability has been found in Novell Identity Manager 4.0.2 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation of the argument workflow reassign with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 02/15/2013 as IDM Roles Based Provisioning Module 402 Field Patch D as not defined patch (Website). The advisory is shared for download at download.novell.com. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
Applying the patch UA402D is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at download.novell.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
