Details
A vulnerability was found in GraphicsMagick up to 1.3.27 (Image Processing Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function AcquireCacheNexus of the file magick/pixel_cache.c of the component Image File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The AcquireCacheNexus function in magick/pixel_cache.c in GraphicsMagick before 1.3.28 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap overwrite) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted image file, because a pixel staging area is not used.
The bug was discovered 02/06/2018. The weakness was disclosed 02/07/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at hg.graphicsmagick.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-6799 since 02/06/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
