CCN-lite up to 1.x localrpc_parse vallen integer overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in CCN-lite up to 1.x. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function localrpc_parse. The manipulation of the argument vallen as part of a Variable leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple integer overflows in CCN-lite before 2.00 allow context-dependent attackers to have unspecified impact via vectors involving the (1) vallen variable in the iottlv_parse_sequence function or (2) typ, vallen and i variables in the localrpc_parse function.

The bug was discovered 08/08/2017. The weakness was released 02/07/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-12465 since 08/04/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 183 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

Upgrading to version 2.00 eliminates this vulnerability.
