A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apache jUDDI up to 3.3.3. Affected is the function WADL2Java/WSDL2Java of the component XML Data Handler. The manipulation as part of a XML Document leads to a xml external entity reference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-611. The product processes an XML document that can contain XML entities with URIs that resolve to documents outside of the intended sphere of control, causing the product to embed incorrect documents into its output. In Apache jUDDI 3.2 through 3.3.4, if using the WADL2Java or WSDL2Java classes, which parse a local or remote XML document and then mediates the data structures into UDDI data structures, there are little protections present against entity expansion and DTD type of attacks. Mitigation is to use 3.3.5.
The bug was discovered 02/09/2018. The weakness was released 02/09/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at juddi.apache.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-1307 since 12/07/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
