Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software does not properly handle errors during the processing of DNS responses, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device reload) via a malformed response, aka Bug ID CSCuj28861.
The weakness was disclosed 12/02/2013 as Cisco ASA Malformed DNS Reply Denial of Service Vulnerability as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-6696 since 11/07/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
