IBM Notes Diagnostics Command Line command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in IBM Notes Diagnostics (Groupware Software) (version unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component Command Line. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

IBM Notes Diagnostics (IBM Client Application Access and IBM Notes) could allow a local user to execute commands on the system. By crafting a command line sent via the shared memory IPC, which could be tricked into executing an executable chosen by the attacker. IBM X-Force ID: 138708.

The bug was discovered 02/13/2018. The weakness was disclosed 02/19/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-1409 since 12/13/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 02/04/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
