A vulnerability was found in libid3tag up to 0.15.1b. It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function id3_utf16_deserialize of the file utf16.c. id3_utf16_deserialize() in utf16.c in libid3tag through 0.15.1b misparses ID3v2 tags encoded in UTF-16 with an odd number of bytes, triggering an endless loop allocating memory until an OOM condition is reached, leading to denial-of-service (DoS).
The bug was discovered 05/03/2005. The weakness was presented 02/21/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.debian.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-2779 since 02/20/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
