The manipulation as part of a Command Line Argument leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. CactusVPN 5.3.6 for macOS contains a root privilege escalation vulnerability through a setuid root binary called runme. The binary takes a single command line argument and passes this argument to a system() call, thus allowing low privileged users to execute commands as root.
The bug was discovered 02/21/2018. The weakness was shared 02/21/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-7281 since 02/21/2018.
