A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 on Macrovision SafeDisc (Operating System). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown code in the library secdrv.sys. An issue was discovered in secdrv.sys as shipped in Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 before KB3086255, and as shipped in Macrovision SafeDisc. Two carefully timed calls to IOCTL 0xCA002813 can cause a race condition that leads to a use-after-free. When exploited, an unprivileged attacker can run arbitrary code in the kernel.
The bug was discovered 02/27/2018. The weakness was presented 02/26/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-7249 since 02/19/2018. Local access is required to approach this attack. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
