A vulnerability was found in Adobe Acrobat Reader up to 2015.006.30394/2017.011.30070/2018.009.20050 (Document Reader Software). It has been declared as critical. An issue was discovered in Adobe Acrobat Reader 2018.009.20050 and earlier versions, 2017.011.30070 and earlier versions, 2015.006.30394 and earlier versions. This vulnerability occurs as a result of computation that reads data that is past the end of the target buffer; the computation occurs in the image conversion engine when processing Enhanced Metafile Format (EMF) data related to handling of bitmap rectangles. A successful attack can lead to sensitive data exposure.
The bug was discovered 02/13/2018. The weakness was disclosed 02/13/2018 by Steven Seeley (riusksk) with Zero Day Initiative as APSB18-02 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-4886 since 01/03/2018. The attack can be launched remotely.
