A vulnerability was found in Apache Xerces-C up to 3.2.0. It has been classified as problematic. This affects some unknown functionality of the component XML Parser. In Apache Xerces-C XML Parser library before 3.2.1, processing of external DTD paths can result in a null pointer dereference under certain conditions.
The bug was discovered 03/01/2018. The weakness was published 03/01/2018 by Alberto Garcia with salesforce.com as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-12627 since 08/07/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
