A vulnerability was found in MIT Kerberos 5 1.6 (Network Authentication Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component kadmin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a ldap injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-90. The product constructs all or part of an LDAP query using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended LDAP query when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
MIT krb5 1.6 or later allows an authenticated kadmin with permission to add principals to an LDAP Kerberos database to circumvent a DN containership check by supplying both a "linkdn" and "containerdn" database argument, or by supplying a DN string which is a left extension of a container DN string but is not hierarchically within the container DN.
The bug was discovered 03/02/2018. The weakness was disclosed 03/06/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.fedoraproject.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-5730 since 01/16/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
