A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Hammer cli up to 0.9.x. Affected by this issue is the function Zone::New of the component Certificate Validation Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a certificate validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-295. Hammer CLI, a CLI utility for Foreman, before version 0.10.0, did not explicitly set the verify_ssl flag for apipie-bindings that disable it by default. As a result the server certificates are not checked and connections are prone to man-in-the-middle attacks.
The bug was discovered 03/27/2017. The weakness was disclosed 03/12/2018 with Red Hat (Website). The advisory is shared for download at projects.theforeman.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-2667 since 12/01/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1587.003.

Upgrading to version 0.10.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
