A vulnerability classified as critical was found in SquirrelMail 1.4.22 (Mail Client Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file Deliver.class.php. The manipulation of the argument att_local_name with the input value ../ leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. A directory traversal flaw in SquirrelMail 1.4.22 allows an authenticated attacker to exfiltrate (or potentially delete) files from the hosting server, related to ../ in the att_local_name field in Deliver.class.php.
The bug was discovered 03/17/2018. The weakness was shared 03/17/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-8741 since 03/17/2018.
