Details
A vulnerability was found in Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified Communication Software) (version now known). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file SPDefault.cnf.xml of the component TFTP Service. The manipulation of the argument UseUserCredential with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-310. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
** DISPUTED ** The TFTP service in Cisco Unified Communications Manager (aka CUCM or Unified CM) allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information from a phone via an RRQ operation, as demonstrated by discovering a cleartext UseUserCredential field in an SPDefault.cnf.xml file. NOTE: the vendor reportedly disputes the significance of this report, stating that this is an expected default behavior, and that the product s documentation describes use of the TFTP Encrypted Config option in addressing this issue.
The weakness was published 12/12/2013 by Daniel Svartman as Cisco Unified Communications Manager - TFTP Service as confirmed posting (Exploit-DB). The advisory is shared for download at exploit-db.com. The public release happened without coordination with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-7030 since 12/09/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.
A public exploit has been developed by Daniel Svartmann and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. By approaching the search of inurl:SPDefault.cnf.xml it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (89649), Exploit-DB (30237) and OSVDB (100916†). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
