Cisco IOS 12.1YD, 12.2T, 12.3 and 12.3T, when configured for the IOS Telephony Service (ITS), CallManager Express (CME) or Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST), allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device reboot) via a malformed packet to the SCCP port.
The bug was discovered 01/19/2005. The weakness was presented 01/19/2005 with Cisco (Website). The advisory is shared at cisco.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-0186 since 01/28/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 12.3(8)T eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at cisco.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
