Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Google Android (Smartphone Operating System) (version now known). Affected is the function wma_vdev_start_resp_handler of the component Linux Kernel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In Qualcomm Android for MSM, Firefox OS for MSM, and QRD Android with all Android releases from CAF using the Linux kernel before security patch level 2018-04-05, in wma_vdev_start_resp_handler(), vdev id is received from firmware as part of WMI_VDEV_START_RESP_EVENTID. This vdev id can be greater than max bssid stored in wma handle and this would result in buffer overwrite while accessing wma_handle->interfaces[vdev_id].

The bug was discovered 04/10/2018. The weakness was disclosed 04/03/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at source.android.com.
