A vulnerability has been found in Google Android (Smartphone Operating System) (the affected version unknown) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ptt_sock_send_msg_to_app of the component PTT Command Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. In Qualcomm Android for MSM, Firefox OS for MSM, and QRD Android with all Android releases from CAF using the Linux kernel before security patch level 2018-04-05, while processing PTT commands, ptt_sock_send_msg_to_app() is invoked without validating the packet length. If the packet length is invalid, then a buffer over-read can occur.
The bug was discovered 02/05/2018. The weakness was released 04/03/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at source.android.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-15853 since 10/24/2017. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
