A vulnerability has been found in Mahara up to 16.9.x/17.04.6/17.10.3 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component TinyMCE. The manipulation as part of a POST Request leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Mahara 16.10 before 16.10.9 and 17.04 before 17.04.7 and 17.10 before 17.10.4 are vulnerable to bad input when TinyMCE is bypassed by POST packages. Therefore, Mahara should not rely on TinyMCE's code stripping alone but also clean input on the server / PHP side as one can create own packets of POST data containing bad content with which to hit the server.
The bug was discovered 01/24/2018. The weakness was presented 04/09/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-6182 since 01/24/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
