A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Cockpit 0.13.0. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component aheinze/fetch_url_contents. The manipulation of the argument url as part of a Parameter leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. SSRF (Server Side Request Forgery) in Cockpit 0.13.0 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files or send TCP traffic to intranet hosts via the url parameter, related to use of the discontinued aheinze/fetch_url_contents component.
The bug was discovered 04/04/2018. The weakness was presented 04/10/2018 as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org.
