Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in ARM mbed TLS up to 2.1.10/2.7.1. This issue affects the function ssl_parse_server_key_exchange. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
ARM mbed TLS before 2.1.11, before 2.7.2, and before 2.8.0 has a buffer over-read in ssl_parse_server_key_exchange() that could cause a crash on invalid input.
The bug was discovered 03/22/2018. The weakness was published 04/10/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-9988 since 04/10/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
