Details
A vulnerability was found in NASA CFITSIO 3.42. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function ffgphd/ffgtkn of the component Library. The manipulation as part of a FIT Image leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the ffgphd and ffgtkn functions in NASA CFITSIO 3.42, specially crafted images parsed via the library can cause a stack-based buffer overflow overwriting arbitrary data. An attacker can deliver an FIT image to trigger this vulnerability and potentially gain code execution.
