A vulnerability was found in PostgreSQL up to 7.4.7 (Database Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function contrib/intagg. PostgreSQL (pgsql) 7.4.x, 7.2.x, and other versions allows local users to load arbitrary shared libraries and execute code via the LOAD extension.
The bug was discovered 02/01/2005. The weakness was presented 02/01/2005 by Marc G. Fournier with postgresql.org (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.postgresql.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-0227 since 02/05/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 17129 (RHEL 2.1 : postgresql (RHSA-2005:150)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19146 (PostgreSQL LOAD Extension Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at wwwmaster.postgresql.org.
