A vulnerability was found in Ipswitch Whatsup Gold up to 17.x (Network Management Software). It has been rated as critical. A Code Injection issue was discovered in DlgSelectMibFile.asp in Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold before 2018 (18.0). Malicious actors can inject a specially crafted SNMP MIB file that could allow them to execute arbitrary commands and code on the WhatsUp Gold server.
The bug was discovered 03/07/2018. The weakness was shared 05/01/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at docs.ipswitch.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-8938 since 03/22/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
