Jenkins before versions 2.44, 2.32.2 is vulnerable to a persisted cross-site scripting in parameter names and descriptions (SECURITY-353). Users with the permission to configure jobs were able to inject JavaScript into parameter names and descriptions.

The bug was discovered 02/01/2017. The weakness was disclosed 05/10/2018 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-2601 since 12/01/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 96939 (FreeBSD : jenkins -- multiple vulnerabilities (5cfa9d0c-73d7-4642-af4f-28fbed9e9404)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Upgrading to version 2.32.2 or 2.44 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
