A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg 2.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function rm_read_audio_stream_info of the file libavformat/rmdec.c. The impact remains unknown.

The issue has been introduced in 10/29/2013. The weakness was published 01/07/2014 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as avformat/rmdec: check that sub_packet_size fit in the packet for DEINT_ID_GENR as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 70 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
