A vulnerability was found in VCFtools 0.1.15. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function header::add_INFO_descriptor of the file header.cpp of the component VCF File Handler. The header::add_INFO_descriptor function in header.cpp in VCFtools 0.1.15 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (use-after-free) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted vcf file.
The bug was discovered 05/16/2018. The weakness was presented 05/17/2018 as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-11129 since 05/15/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
