Unquoted Windows search path vulnerability in the client in Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 11.x before 11.0.7.4 and 12.x before 12.1.2 RU2 and Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.x before 12.1.2 RU2 allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted program in the %SYSTEMDRIVE% directory.
The weakness was released 01/09/2014 by Anand Bhat and Timothy McKenzie as Security Advisories Relating to Symantec Products - Symantec Endpoint Protection Privilege Assumption, Policy Bypass, Local Elevation of Privilege as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at symantec.com. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-5011 since 07/29/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
