A vulnerability was found in The Sleuth Kit up to 4.6.1. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function raw_read of the file libtskimg.a. An issue was discovered in libtskimg.a in The Sleuth Kit (TSK) from release 4.0.2 through to 4.6.1. An out-of-bounds read of a memory region was found in the function raw_read in tsk/img/raw.c which could be leveraged by an attacker to disclose information or manipulated to read from unmapped memory causing a denial of service attack.
The bug was discovered 06/03/2018. The weakness was released 06/05/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-11739 since 06/05/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
