A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Mozilla Firefox, Firefox ESR and Thunderbird (Web Browser) (affected version not known). This affects the function ConvolvePixel of the component SVG Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. An out-of-bounds read while processing SVG content in "ConvolvePixel". This results in a crash and also allows for otherwise inaccessible memory being copied into SVG graphic content, which could then displayed. This vulnerability affects Thunderbird < 52.1, Firefox ESR < 45.9, Firefox ESR < 52.1, and Firefox < 53.
The bug was discovered 04/19/2017. The weakness was released 06/11/2018 by Huzaifa Sidhpurwala with Zero Day Initiative as Bug 1347617 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-5465 since 01/13/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy.
