A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Mozilla Firefox up to 56 (Web Browser). Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Health Report. The "pingsender" executable used by the Firefox Health Report dynamically loads a system copy of libcurl, which an attacker could replace. This allows for privilege escalation as the replaced libcurl code will run with Firefox's privileges. Note: This attack requires an attacker have local system access and only affects OS X and Linux. Windows systems are not affected. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 57.
The bug was discovered 11/14/2017. The weakness was disclosed 06/11/2018 with Mozilla as Bug 1401339 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.mozilla.org.
