Details
A vulnerability has been found in ovirt-engine up to 4.2.3 (Virtualization Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component engine-setup. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Password). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
ovirt-engine up to version 4.2.3 is vulnerable to an unfiltered password when choosing manual db provisioning. When engine-setup was run and one chooses to provision the database manually or connect to a remote database, the password input was logged in cleartext during the verification step. Sharing the provisioning log might inadvertently leak database passwords.
The bug was discovered 06/01/2018. The weakness was published 06/12/2018 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-1075 since 12/04/2017. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 11 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
