A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player 3.9.0.1380/3.9.0.1380 SDK/11.2.202.332/11.9.900.170 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Address Layout Randomizer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Adobe Flash Player before 11.7.700.260 and 11.8.x and 11.9.x before 12.0.0.38 on Windows and Mac OS X and before 11.2.202.335 on Linux, Adobe AIR before 4.0.0.1390, Adobe AIR SDK before 4.0.0.1390, and Adobe AIR SDK & Compiler before 4.0.0.1390 allow attackers to defeat the ASLR protection mechanism by leveraging an "address leak."
The weakness was disclosed 01/14/2014 with Zero Day Initiative as Security updates available for Adobe Flash Player as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at helpx.adobe.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Adobe. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-0492 since 12/20/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71950 (Adobe AIR <= AIR 3.9.0.1380 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB14-02)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122013 (Red Hat Update for flash-plugin (RHSA-2014:0028)).
Upgrading to version 12.0.0.38, 12.0.0.41, 12.0.0.43, 11.7.700.260, 11.2.202.335 or 4.0.0.1390 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at helpx.adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13613.
