A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in FastStone Image Viewer 6.2. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the file FSViewer.exe of the component User Mode. The manipulation as part of a JPEG File leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. FastStone Image Viewer 6.2 has a User Mode Read and Execute AV at 0x0057898e, triggered when the user opens a malformed JPEG file that is mishandled by FSViewer.exe. Attackers could exploit this issue for DoS (Access Violation) or possibly unspecified other impact.
The bug was discovered 06/19/2018. The weakness was disclosed 06/20/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-11707 since 06/04/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
