WebExtensions bundled with embedded experiments were not correctly checked for proper authorization. This allowed a malicious WebExtension to gain full browser permissions. This vulnerability affects Firefox ESR < 60.1 and Firefox < 61.
The bug was discovered 06/26/2018. The weakness was presented 06/26/2018 as MFSA 2018-15 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-12369 since 06/14/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
