A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Red Hat JBoss Web Framework Kit 2.3.0 (Application Server Software). This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file InterfaceGenerator.java of the component XML External Entity Handler. Multiple XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerabilities in the (1) ExecutionHandler, (2) PollHandler, and (3) SubscriptionHandler classes in JBoss Seam Remoting in JBoss Seam 2 framework 2.3.1 and earlier, as used in JBoss Web Framework Kit, allow remote attackers to read arbitrary files and possibly have other impacts via a crafted XML file.
The weakness was published 12/18/2013 by Jon Passki with Coverity Security Research Laboratory as Bug 1044784 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-6447 since 11/04/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 2.4.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The vulnerability will be addressed with the following lines of code:
