A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in FFmpeg 4.0.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected by this issue is the function handle_eac3 of the file libavformat/movenc.c. The manipulation as part of a Parameter leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. In FFmpeg 4.0.1, an improper argument (AVCodecParameters) passed to the avpriv_request_sample function in the handle_eac3 function in libavformat/movenc.c may trigger an out-of-array read while converting a crafted AVI file to MPEG4, leading to a denial of service and possibly an information disclosure.
The bug was discovered 06/27/2018. The weakness was disclosed 07/05/2018 by Alex (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-13300 since 07/05/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
