A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway 2000. This issue affects an unknown function of the file uniquesig0/InternalSite/InitParams.aspx. The manipulation of the argument orig_url as part of a Parameter leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. uniquesig0/InternalSite/InitParams.aspx in Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway 2010 allows remote attackers to trigger outbound DNS queries for arbitrary hosts via a comma-separated list of URLs in the orig_url parameter, possibly causing a traffic amplification and/or SSRF outcome.
The bug was discovered 06/20/2018. The weakness was shared 07/05/2018 as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-12571 since 06/19/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
